Gene Alexander

Director of Technology Entrepreneurship – Chapman University

With a PhD in Electrical Engineering / Computer Science, U Illinois – Chicago, Gene Alexander is a computer scientist, entrepreneur and engineer, currently consulting for a number of scalable technology startups. Previously, he was VP & GM for Motion Analysis Corporation, an entertainment technology company, and acquirer of his previous startup, MaMoCa. As CEO, Gene led MaMoCa from an idea through external funding and on to acquisition. Prior to MaMoCa, he was a Lecturer and Senior Research Engineer in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Stanford University. At Stanford, Gene co-founded Imaging Therapeutics, subsequently acquired by Conformis, now a billion dollar company, which has multiple FDA approved products on the market. Prior to Stanford, Gene was splitting time as a Research Engineer at Rush Presbyterian St. Luke’s Medical Center, as Engineering Director for Computerized Functional Testing Corporation, and pursuing his PhD. Gene is a veteran of the US Army and holds six issued US patents, with multiple patents pending.

Grant Hosford

Senior Director, Product – Idealab

Grant has been deeply involved with ecommerce, online marketing and mobile marketing for over a decade. He was an early champion of web analytics and co-founded a web analytics consulting practice at ZAAZ, Inc. For the past 5 years he has worked at eHarmony and he currently runs their new social dating site, Jazzed.

David Obrand

CEO – Fuzebox

Serving as Chief Executive Officer, technology and SaaS veteran David Obrand brings close to 20 years' experience in sales, technology, operations and management to Fuzebox. In this role, David drives the growth of Fuzebox, accelerating product development and expanding global sales and marketing operations.

Prior to joining FuzeBox, Obrand was Chief Customer Officer at Yammer, playing an instrumental role in the company’s fast-paced growth and eventual acquisition by Microsoft for $1.2 billion in 2012. Additionally, David served as Vice President of Vertical Sales at During his near 10-year tenure, he established record revenue growth, quickly scaling Salesforce’s global footprint. He has also held sales and business development positions at leading technology companies such as Promptu Corporation, Sagent Technology and Siebel Systems.

David holds a bachelor's degree in Economics and Political Science from Claremont McKenna College. In his spare time, David is an avid scuba diver, angel investor, and philanthropist. He lives in Moraga, California with his wife and two amazing children.


Alexei Dunayev

CEO – TranscribeMe

Berkeley-based CEO and serial entrepreneur, Alexei Dunayev has a reputation for creating winning businesses within a market niche. He brings a history of successful prior exits to TranscribeMe in the tech startup space. Alexei has received the ComputerWorld Excellence award and has been involved with a number of non-profit projects. He is a Fulbright Scholar and Stanford MBA graduate, and a CompSci undergrad.

Drew Oetting

Drew began his career as an analyst in the Technology Investment Banking Division of Moelis & Company in Palo Alto, California where he focused on M&A advisory in the Internet/Digital Media and Network Infrastructure industries. While in college Drew worked in the private equity group of Cascade Investment in Kirkland, Washington as well as for Asia Pacific Investment Partners, a Hong Kong-holdings company focused on real estate and mining investments in Mongolia.Drew received a B.A. in Economics and Mathematics cum laude from Claremont McKenna College in Claremont, California. He was a Robert Day Scholar, two-time Bill Gates Investment/Michael Larson Asset Management Fellow and served as a student representative on the Claremont McKenna College Board of Trustees. Drew enjoys golf, basketball and snowboarding and in college sang tenor for The Claremont Shades, a professional a capella group. Originally from Iowa City, Iowa, Drew is passionate about using technology in conjunction with innovative leadership to improve society and tackle the world’s big problems.

Mandy Vidalis

Mandy possesses 15 years international work experience in South Africa, the Middle East, and the United States. She has worked in the industries of wealth management and investment banking, as well as running small businesses.

In her most recent role, Mandy was an operations manager for a private wealth management firm in Bahrain. Her expertise includes strategic planning, operations management, project management, and human resource management. She is passionate about both social development and environmental sustainability.

Mandy holds an MBA from Hult International Business School in San Francisco, California. She is originally from South Africa.

Molly Schmid, Ph.D

President – Tech Coast Angels, Inland Empire network

Molly B. Schmid, Ph.D. is the President of the Inland Empire network of the Tech Coast Angels, a member of the TCA Board of Directors, and a a Senior Counselor for TriTech Small Business Development Center. She has had a distinguished career in academia, where she was Professor and Entrepreneur-in-Residence at Keck Graduate Institute of Applied Life Sciences in Claremont CA, and was previously an Assistant Professor of Molecular Biology at Princeton University.

She has also held senior leadership positions in the biotech industry, where she served as Senior Vice President of Preclinical Programs at Affinium Pharmaceuticals in Toronto, Director of Genomics and Bioinformatics at Genencor International, and Director of Biology and Vice President of Research Alliances at Microcide Pharmaceuticals. In these companies, she was part of executive teams that raised over $100MM in funding through venture capital, corporate partnerships, public markets, and US and Canadian federal research grants. She has been honored for her achievements as a Fellow of the American Academy of Microbiology, a Searle Scholar, and a Damon-Runyon Fellow. She has nine issued U.S. patents, and several others pending.
